John Brown’s Body

During the civil war our US ”battle hymn of the republic” John Brown’s Body, was rewritten many times. Here is the correct version, for it is humanity which has been so cruelly enslaved along with this tender, abused earth.

John Brown’s Body

My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He tramples out the vineyards where the grapes of wrath are stored
He cleaves the lies in two, with his broad and mighty sword
The truth goes marching on.

[Chorus (insert as traditional)]:
Glory, glory hallelujah, Glory, glory hallelujah,
Glory, glory hallelujah,
The truth goes marching on.

John Brown’s body lays a mouldering in the grave
He gave his mortal life, for the freeing of the slaves
Look around you now, Humanity’s enslaved today
The truth goes marching on.

Life is sweet and tender, a gentle fact of right
Free is every corner, of a decent worthy life
A silent daemon holds us, I’ll cut him down with light
The truth goes marching on.

Love cast within faith, will cut the daemon down
Tender caring shared, will slit him to the ground
Be you sister or my brother, from woman were you found
The truth goes marching on.

Here, I’ll show you how, you may live with clean bright skies
Then to give the lowest, what the highest did provide
And in loving kindness, we may sweep away the lies
The truth goes marching on.

I bring you sweetest air, I bring you peace and light
The crooked path is straightened, before the clearest sight
Hatred melts as butter, within golden light
The truth goes marching on.

It is we who are the higher, it is we who know to love
Ascending and evolving, our light shines from above
No filthy thing in hiding, will imprison life for us
The truth goes marching on.

They lie about the wars, they lie about the sky
Lowly vermin poison, sweet earth made sick to die
Mankind may but love, to reclaim his place on high
The truth goes marching on.

Now within the darkness, a shining light cast forth
Truth is but a beacon, calling toward the shore
Of tender caring shared, for this world is our reward
The truth goes marching on.

Now we know of heaven, for now the Lord has come
He is but caring’s messenger, her bell rung from above
For in truth tis she who loves us, for of Nature have we sprung
Her truth goes marching on.
